Rijo M. John, Ph.D

Rijo M. John is an economist and public health policy analyst based in Kerala, India. Dr. John does independent research and technical consulting for several institutions including the World Health Organization, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids among others. He is also an adjunct professor at the Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kochi, and a guest faculty at the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode, India. He formerly worked as Assistant Professor of Economics at the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur. Dr. John has published extensively and his research focuses on evidence-based public policies on regulation of tobacco, alcohol, and sugar-sweetened beverages in low- and middle-income countries.

Dr. John has a master’s in economics from the University of Hyderabad in 2001, and a Ph.D. from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai. He has a post-doctoral fellowship from the University of California San Francisco.
